Crompton Lamps traces its history to 1878, when Colonel R. E. B. Crompton developed a steadier arc lamp and established the company’s first works in Chelmsford. Its early electrical projects included lighting at Windsor Castle and Holyrood Palace, placing the name within the pioneering period of British electric lighting.

The business evolved through Crompton Parkinson, formed with Frank Parkinson in 1927, and later periods under Hawker Siddeley and Cooper Industries. A management buyout in 2006 re-established Crompton Lamps as an independent company and moved its operations to Bradford, while membership of GCH Corporation since 2011 has provided support for continued development.

Today Crompton Lamps supplies trade and commercial customers with lamps, fittings and specialist lighting solutions. Its range spans familiar lamp shapes and caps, LED products, commercial fittings, decorative lamps and application-specific lighting, supported by product knowledge and technical service.
