Moldex was founded in California in 1980 and initially concentrated on disposable dust masks. Moldex Europe followed five years later, establishing a regional operation centred on user-friendly respiratory and hearing protection.

Working with the mining industry, the company developed an exhalation valve for FFP masks to improve comfort in demanding underground conditions. It moved into earplug production in 1986 and expanded its respiratory portfolio in 1994 with the reusable Series 8000 half-mask and replaceable-filter system.
