Brand heritage and specialisms
Squire's lockmaking history began in 1780 when William Squire produced mechanism padlocks, door locks and cabinet locks. In the early nineteenth century the business supplied the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars and developed lever-padlock designs.
Henry Squire & Sons Ltd was formally incorporated in 1906. As furniture construction changed, the company shifted emphasis from mortice furniture locks towards padlocks, later adding recognisable laminated and Old English ranges and launching its first UK cycle locks in 1963.
Modern Squire products span general-purpose, combination, cycle, motorcycle and high-security padlocks. Its Stronghold family became the first LPCB-approved high-security padlock range in 2012, while later products extended into exceptionally heavy-duty and digitally controlled security; the company remains family owned through eight generations.
