Bahco’s history began in Sweden in 1886 with Johan Petter Johansson and the business that became Enköpings Mekaniska Verkstad. Johansson patented an improved pipe wrench in 1888 and the adjustable wrench in 1892, inventions that helped establish Bahco’s long association with practical hand-tool engineering.

The Fish and Hook mark found on Bahco products grew from the reputation of Swedish steel: a hook made from the company’s steel was presented as strong enough to land a fish. That industrial heritage was followed by further product development, including the Sandflex bi-metal saw blade in 1969 and the formal ERGO development programme in 1982.

Today Bahco forms part of SNA Europe within Snap-on and offers a catalogue of more than 24,000 products. The official brand history records more than 400 registered patents, reflecting continued work across hand tools, saws, cutting equipment, storage, automotive tools and specialist trade applications.
