Bosch traces its origins to the Workshop for Precision Mechanics and Electrical Engineering founded by Robert Bosch in Stuttgart in 1886. The company's power-tool story began in 1928 with the Forfex hair trimmer, whose motor-in-the-handle principle helped shape later compact electric tools.

Bosch developed an early universal hand motor for drilling and screwdriving, then introduced its first construction hammer drill in 1932. Power-tool production moved to Leinfelden in the 1950s and became an independent Bosch division in 1959 as the business expanded for professional and home users.

Cordless development became another major theme. Bosch launched a battery-powered hedge cutter in 1969 and the first professional cordless hammer drill in 1984, followed in later decades by lithium-ion platforms. Today the range covers drilling, cutting, grinding, sanding, measuring, dust management, accessories and connected tools.
