Dormer Tools was founded in Sheffield on 4 September 1913 by H. A. Dormer and L. Robertson. Its development in a city strongly associated with steel and toolmaking helped establish the brand’s long-standing specialism in precision cutting tools for industrial and trade applications.

The Dormer trademark was registered in 1924. The company later became the first drill manufacturer in Europe to introduce steam-temper treatment to its products in 1950, and by 1953 it had grown into the world’s largest twist-drill manufacturer, employing 2,500 people.

Dormer joined the Sandvik Group in 1992 and now forms part of Dormer Pramet. The modern range covers solid drilling, threading, milling, reaming and associated rotary-tool applications, supported by technical data intended to help users match tool material and geometry to the workpiece and process.
