RUBI began in 1951 when Joan Boada filed a Barcelona patent for a new manual cutter for hydraulic mosaic and tile. Working with his brother Antoni, he developed the tool and produced the first units in Rubí, Catalonia, creating a faster and more controlled alternative to established cutting methods.

The cutter received a medal and diploma at Spain's National Exhibition of Inventions in 1953. Further patented developments included an impact breaker, while the formation of Germans Boada S.A. in 1969 supported wider production, exporting and the international growth of the RUBI name.

RUBI now produces manual and electric cutters, diamond tools, mixers, handling systems and installation accessories for ceramic, porcelain and other surface materials. Tile type, format, thickness, cut length, required finish and frequency of use are central to choosing the right system.
