NEUTRIK began in 1975 as a two-person operation in a farmhouse in Schaan, Liechtenstein. Founder Bernhard Weingartner worked with the owners of NeuElektrik AG to develop professional connector products using combined mechanical and electronic expertise.

The company established common installation dimensions for male and female D-series XLR connectors in 1980 and continued with screwless XLR designs. A UK subsidiary followed in 1986, while speakON arrived in 1987 as a touch-protected connection system for loudspeakers and amplifiers.

Later developments include the combined XLR/jack connector, powerCON for locking mains power, etherCON for ruggedised network connections and opticalCON for fibre. The modern range serves professional audio, stage lighting, broadcast, video, data and demanding industrial applications.
